Do I have to pay rent on chemically contaminated land?

I just found out what "love Canal" really is. I'm going to be moving soon and I was wondering if I legally still have to pay rent even though it has nothing said in the rental agreement and my landlord never said a word about the 21,800 lbs. of toxic waste practically in my backyard.

  1. Since you signed a rental agreement you need to pay rent. It is a legally binding contract, and nothing was said about the "canal" because it has no bearing on your contract. Why would you think that he should be supporting you?
  2. The Love Canal situation was cleaned up under an agreement between the EPA and Occidental Petroleum, which paid about $130 million to have the cleanup done.
